Jason’s Personal Care Guide

I don’t just plant your tree and leave; I want to make sure your  stays as green as the day it was installed. Because this species is a slow grower (averaging about 6 inches of trunk growth per year), protecting the existing fronds is key to keeping it looking full.

I. Hydration & The "Morning Only" Rule

Proper watering is the most important part of the first 90 days.

  • The Routine: Daily morning watering for the first 30 days, then three times a week.
  • The Technique: You need to soak the root ball, not just the leaves.
  • Watch: How to properly water your new palm
  • Jason’s Tip: Never water at night. Moisture sitting in the "heart" of a   overnight is an open invitation for rot and fungus.

II. Feeding: The 8-Week Establishment Phase

  • Weeks 1–8: Water only. Let the roots settle in before you introduce chemicals.
  • Step 1 (Week 8): Apply Sunniland Palm Fertilizer (8-2-12) to the drip line.
  • Step 2 (Week 12): Apply 1–2 lbs of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate). This is my personal secret for preventing the yellow "bronzing" that happens to so many Pygmy Date Palms.

III. Pruning Standard

To maintain the health and strength of your palm, it is essential to avoid excessive trimming.

Guideline: Only remove fronds that have turned brown.

Removing green fronds deprives the plant of the nutrients it needs.: Watch: The proper way to prune a Pygmy Date

Helpful Note:

Plant size and growth may vary. Proper watering, spacing, and after-care are essential for best results.
